Fancy feathers, Austrian crystals and my glue gun are my favorite toys. I enjoy working with different bases, from leather to plastic, polymer clay and papier-mâché. I do several craft and art shows around the Northern California area, year round.
I have been to Venice three times now and have always returned full of new ideas and new techniques. I hope to return, during Carnivale, soon. Images of Italy, New Orleans and Rio inspire some of my designs, my dreams form the others.
I think masks are a way of bringing out the true person in each of us. Each mask is different and different masks suit different wearers. In my opinion, there is a mask for every person, that, like makeup or clothing, enhances the wearer's soul or aura, if one believes in that. A single beautiful mask will not look perfect on every person, it must be an extension of his or her own personality to look right. When the wearer finds the perfect mask, the face may be hidden, but the personality is brought forth.
Each gallery has a different style of masks. The division reflects the artist's whim. The Maschare section features masks that could be seen on any street corner of Venice during Carnivale. The style is less feathery and more traditional with cleaner, starker lines than many other masks. A "Royal Court of the Fairies" theme pervades the Masks of the Fae section with whimsical feathers, silk flowers and leaves. The Primitive section's masks usually feature leather and fur. The animal products came from small game hunters who do not want to waste even the smallest part of their dinner catches; the feathers are collected from the artist's backyard. The Wall Hangings are masks or artwork that are not wearable. Ribbons may be added to some masks but others are only suitable for decoration. Please inquire if you wish a mask modified to wear. Please feel free to inquire about any mask, its materials, variations and availability via email to BenevolntGoddess@aol.com.
